Ariadne in Winterwonderland
In February 2021, the artist organization Evanston Made called on its members to participate in the art project "Winter Wonderland" and to hang artworks in the trees, place objects or create installations with the materials given by nature during a whole month at the Canal Shores Golf Course.
My contribution was a snow labyrinth, inspired by the labyrinth I discovered at my 2018 retreat at Karthause Ittingen and walked every day. To ensure that the labyrinth would not completely disappear with the first snow melt, I laid out red woolen thread along the way, which then gave the installation its name.
In the following gallery you can see many details and also how the labyrinth changed at the beginning of spring.
The labyrinth is one of the oldest symbols of mankind and is found in many cultures. The labyrith is not a maze. It has a winding path, but it leads safely to the center and back to the outside world. The labyrinth can be understood as a symbol of man's path through life. It invites to get involved in a path and to walk towards the center.
